"Just back from a 3 night stay at Pooley Bridge Inn. We booked one of the balcony rooms which overlooks the front of the hotel. This was great for chilling after walks on rainy days. The room itself had everything you could need for your stay, selection of tea, coffee, etc and this was topped up daily as required. There’s a communal fridge for guest use on the landing which was in working order.
The room was clean on arrival and daily room cleaning was available if required but we chose not to unless we needed something, you just let them know.
The hotel is exceptionally doggy friendly, as long as they are on the floor which is fair enough.
Breakfast is plentiful, ranging from continental to full fry up, of varying sizes. I wish I had a bigger appetite cause it was so tasty. Fresh tea and coffee served on request as well. They even have Doggy sausages on the menu for your furry friend.
Parking is provided for hotel guests and diners but can be very busy during lunch and dinner services. We never had an issue though.
We chose to have dinner (booking advised) in the hotel on 2 nights of our stay. There are ample choices on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious and very filling.
The staff were all very friendly, Tracy, the housekeeping manager, was who we saw the most as she seemed to be there all the time. She fulfilled our minimum requests every time. All staff that we saw worked very hard at all times to keeps guests happy and the hotel pristine."
"Very authentic but needs a refresh without losing its historic authenticity. Needs elevator and trailheads are too far (1 1/2 miles to Old Corpse Road trailhead) - needs trailhead right behind hotel.
Dinner menu not good — very fancy, very narrow, might be popular in Knightsbridge or Kensington but not in mountains where people out and about and craving hearty meal at end of day- the “bread” was ridiculous."
"We had an issue with our room which was quickly resolved. The restaurant offers a good choice of food and ours was very tasty. Again, a good choice for breakfast which was also really tasty."
"I have used this hotel four times this last year as a stopover for trips from south Devon to Scotland and overall have been pleased with the facilities and service provided. Meals have been excellent and the rooms comfortable and clean. My only concern has been with the service in the dining room: the staff are all delightfully friendly and welcoming but on each of my visits service has been very slow - it took 40 minutes last night for drinks we’d ordered to arrive and our meals a further 10. We weren’t the only ones waiting far too long. I’m sure some training or perhaps a shake up of procedures in the kitchen itself might help. Having driven over 350 miles yesterday I didn’t appreciate being kept waiting so long for my dinner! "
"Perfect location for exploring Helvellyn. Staff were attentive and friendly. We took our dog with us and they looked after all of us.
Pub had great atmosphere. Would stay here again."
"The room we had had a problem with the toilet. It took ages to stop filling up & at one point the flusher stayed down so we had no toilet in our room.
We went down for breakfast today at 9am only to find the landlord had overslept so the place was all closed up. Even the staff were waiting outside to get in.
One member of staff, Natalie , was a great member of staff & very helpful.
Great location for the town but very casual approach."
"I had a pleasant and comfortable stay. I only ate at the hotel one evening but the salmon fillet was delightful. All of the staff were polite and friendly whilst remaining very professional. Nevan, in particular, was remarkably calm, professional and attentive in the face of multiple large coach-parties in addition to private guests, making him a true asset to the establishment. Thanks all!"
