"The room and hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were nice but not the most helpful when I called before our stay. It took two phone calls to find out if there was somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening.
Breakfast was quite nice. Evening meal in the Bistro was very average. The coffee in the room was nescafe instant sachets which was very disappointing for 4* hotel, and the decaf at breakfast was also nescafe instant.
However, the price we paid was very good. I would stay again but I'd bring my own coffee and milk for the room (only 2 pots of UHT milk provided)."
"This is a hotel in a perfect location. It is so beautiful to look into the bay and so wonderful to be able to go on the most incredible coastal walks from the doorstep. Great to take the boat to Salcombe and explore from there.
The room was lovely, but we were on the ground floor and looked out onto the bay, but also the decked area; so it wasn't very private.

"Amazing characterful hotel. Chandeliers were a wonderful sight. Huge areas to sit and relax. Wonderful views across the bay. Sadly the service in the restaurant was extremely slow. A word of apology with an explanation would have helped. But we were just left sitting and waiting…… The restaurant was not that busy. Maybe that was the reason why!
Our starters arrived around 50 minutes after we ordered them. Plated up with very little imagination. The main course arrived within a short space of time, but again it looked very uninspiring. The Salmon could have had a wedge of lemon and a sprig of parsley to dress it up a bit! A big letdown when the hotel itself is so welcoming."
"Basic double was fine. Everything we needed. Great location and plenty of breakfast options in town. Historic property so expect winding stairs and tight corners that comes with character. Only niggle was the heat of the room - but a fan was provided for the room if wanted. Great to have a parking option too in the middle of Exeter. Would stay again."
"We arrived very early to get a parking space as parking is difficult otherwise. We were checked on later by a friendly receptionist who double checked our car registration ans showed us she'd entered it correctly on the computer. She asked if we wanted to book breakfast but we didn't. When she handed us the key we were surprised to find it was exactly the same room as the one we'd stayed in last week. Again it was clean, and spacious with a nice shower. Lovely building and very situated for all amenities"
