Stunning venue and location

Stunning venue and location; comfortable rooms and friendly service. The hotel could be luxurious is a few touches were made such as robes/slippers/quality toiletries and thicker duvets etc. The decor also needs some tlc. However, it is a lovely place and we will return.

Excellent Hotel with Plenty of Charm and Charisma

Excellent hotel. This renovated castle is full of character in a quiet area. The room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast did not have too much of a choice but what was available was of high quality and satisfied me. I never ate in restaurant but did dine in the bar, again the choice was not too big but the quality was excellent. The staff were polite and attentive. I highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing time.

Nice stay.

Stayed in Geranium. Spacious room and bathroom, good shower. Only one chair to sit on so could have done with another and there was plenty of room. The radiator didn’t seem to work, so wasn’t cosy but didn’t seem cold either. Breakfast choice good. Car park small. Beautiful grounds, bluebells and young deer.
Elizabeth, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

The shower was mouldy. Staff while I stayed were helpful and polite. However, I had cause to telephone reception on the evening after I left. My calls were repeatedly answered and hung-up immediately without anyone speaking. On the last attempt the handset was simply left on the reception desk for me to listen to another customer complaining. After a few minutes the receptionist again hung up without speaking. Disgraceful way to treat a customer. No going back.

Nice location rooms clean but have dated decor

Lovely historic building and location. Unfortunately the hotel rooms (standard double) whilst clean and in order, are out of date (late 90’s) and could benefit from a redesign & refurbishment. The restaurant evening meal is a little overpriced for the quality of the dishes. £25 for a grilled Tuna steak would be justified if it was not a supermarket bought in product. The potatoes and beg were adequately cooked. The recent repointing in the restaurant should not have been approved, as it is not in keeping with the original stone work. The waiting service could also be a little sharper/attentive. Communal areas were lovely. We only stayed 1 night on route to Scotland, so for us the hotel was a good overnight stopover.
Glenn, 1-night trip

Good hotel, breakfast disappointing

Lovely hotel, we only stayed as an overnight stop on the way to Scotland. Great locatio for this, just off the main routes. Room was ok, clean and tidy, as always tv too small! Plenty of tea and coffee in the room (hidden in wardrobe) Grounds were beautiful and think you are getting lost trying to find it once off main route. Limited parking and had no where to park when we checked in late in the evening, but reception found us somewhere, so wasnt a problem. Breakfast for us was a big let down! Buffet style and most things were cold and what was a big disappointment was they couldnt do a hot chocolate with soya milk because it all comes out of a machine! In these times with so many allergies then places should be adapting to dietary needs! Would we stay again, yes, but might not be first choice

Fantastic Stay – Quiet, Convenient, and Friendly!

Stayed here recently and was really impressed. The hotel is in a great location – surprisingly quiet despite being just off the A64, with easy access to the A1(M), making it perfect for road trips or business travel. The grounds are beautiful, well-maintained, and offer a peaceful setting to relax in. There’s also ample parking, which made everything so much easier. All the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. A special shout-out to Alice and Jen in the restaurant – their service was absolutely fabulous! Friendly, attentive, and made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this hotel for a peaceful stay with excellent service, beautiful surroundings, and great convenience. Will definitely return!

Country House treat

This hotel - or rather complex - is a real gem. Spa, quad biking, axe throwing, secret forest and forest amphitheatre. Fantastic variety of activities, and friendly, helpful staff who are very eager to ensure your stay is perfect. This included going the extra mile to ensure I was able to video conference despite the challenge that a building with thick stone walls presents for wifi. Rooms are superb with every possible amenity.
David, 3-night trip

Mixed bunch

Service ranged from excellent to poor. Took allergies very serious which was fab but waited a long time to order drinks at bar and food. Check out time nobody at the fest waited a while before member of staff showed up. Hotel itself seems dated. Rooms not clean. Windows gives in dirt. Extractor fan covered in dust. Wall paper peeling all walls etc. not worth the price paid for especially as we did a suite
Sarah, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

All staff in the Castle and Spa were helpful and kind. Although the hotel was well understaffed at one point on a sat night the bar lounge didnt have a bartender for over half hour, leaving guests unable to order food or drinks
