I found this a great place to stay as a solo female traveller. It felt safe, and although a little warn down everything was cleaner than I expected. Having access to the pool and gym was also nice. It had tge benefits of a hostel while being able to have your own space.

Simple accommodation with a great location for walking to downtown events, art gallery, theatre and restaurant waterfront. Nothing fancy, perfect if you are out and about all day. Generally quiet at night. I heard faint fireworks one night.

Shower only had cold water and when you closed the door there was a 1cm gap all the way down which was uncomfortable since it is all gender bathroom. The door for my bedroom locks automatically which would have been nice to know in advance. The price is good, area good too

I am Dalhousie Alumni, so I wanted to show my daughter the campus, I thought staying in the dorms would be fun. The service was great, but the room was less than mediocre for the price. $314 including tax for 2 nights. The shared washroom we knew about, and yes there were towels, but nothing else in the room. I feel like there can be more effort put in to the summer accommodations for the price they are expecting. I was grateful for the fans, as it was very hot. Nothing included. It used to be less expensive to stay in the dorms. Now, I would definitely opt for a hotel. I’m sorry for the negative review.

Recent stay at Risley Hall

I found the room and shared bathroom mostly clean. The women's hygiene station in the bathroom needs to be cleaned more frequently but the shower was nice and clean. I also understand there may be a policy for students not to ask for printing to be done by staff, but I think visiting guests should be accommodated in this manner. Lastly the vending machines are not great. I imagine there's a contract across the university but two machines ate my money and the product was not delivered.

Staff was very helpful and room was clean and perfect. As somebody with allergies and sensitivities I very much appreciated the cleanliness of the rooms. We got the suite with 3 private rooms, 2 washrooms and a kitchen with full sized fridge and freezer. Residence was central to everything we needed for our 3 night stay, quiet and we felt quite safe. Would recommend!
