Spacious room with a great ocean view
It’s a grand and glamorous hotel which witnesses the glorious days of Japan. There’s a huge lobby with a European style library. The lounge is huge with sunset ocean views. The hot springs is huge too that is built by jade. The room is spacious and comfortable. Front desk helped us booking a five lake tour. Breakfasts were very good. Didn’t try dinner. Stayed there 2 nights. Memorable!

A huge but clean and well maintained property. The dinner and breakfast buffets were well stocked with varieties, quantities and quality to please most palates. The onsen is big and the outdoor pool offers a panoramic sea view. The view of the sunset is especially mesmerizing. Don’t miss it.

Dinning should be improved
Dinner is unpleasant as its fair quality of food and the smell of the restaurant was oily.

The room cleaning team did not change the yukata used by the previous guest. I found tissue paper in the inside pocket. It was disgusting.

Beautiful location, very large hotel , large room, huge windows with amazing view. I did not eat at the restaurant but used the large hot springs and enjoyed the many pools. The problem is that the hotel smells bad with musty carpets, elevators smell like smoke , the room carpet was very old and stained and the toilet room smelled horrible. The hotel is in desperate need of renovations and new carpets. It is so huge that it feels uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

We especially would like to thank the front reception staff by the name of Lee. Lee-san has been a great help to us and she has made our check in at the hotel extremely easy and smooth. Thanks for sharing with us some of the valuable information about the national park which have save us some time and hassle. She is definitely a keeper. Shiretoko Daiichi hotel, if you see this, please compliment her on our behalf.
She has somewhat made our stay at the hotel even more pleasant. ◡̎

The room size is generous. However, if you book in winter and the weather is not good, especially windy days, and your room is facing the ocean, the sound/noise of waves and tides are too penetrating.
Breakfast and dinner are buffet style with generous spread. However, I feel the heating is not good and the food are mostly not warm, especially for dinner.
The location is on a small hill/slope and not very convenient to walk around. It’s better to come with self-driving/car. The town is small.

Please don’t stay here if you are foreigner and no car. The front desk staff just excused she can’t speak English then throw me the QR code to read by myself. I have been to many onsen hotels in Japan. The service in Shiretoko Daiichi is not comparable to the others. I can say it is the worst onsen hotel. The plates are sooo dirty at restaurant. I can’t believe it’s in Japan! The staff never greet me when they see me. Only plus point is the room is big. But they gave me a very noisy room which is next to onsen. I couldn’t sleep well cos I can hear people walk pass my room.

The room is spacious, bright and clean.
However, the private onsen is old and rusty. The sink, faucet, metal handle bars and anything metal around the onsen is corroding pretty badly. I turned the faucet handle on the faucet and my hand smelled like rust even after washing it. There is also rust on the tile floor. The private onsen needs full renovation and shouldn't be used by anyone in these conditions.

An excellent experience
The hotel upgraded me to a family room which offers panorama view to the Sea of Okhotsk, as well as super nice bathroom and super spacious living area.
Everything was great so can't really say anything bad about the room. The public bath facility also offers wonderful experience and you can actually use the external bath to feel the cool air from outside.
The dinner and breakfast offered the better selection than another fancy hotel in the same town in my opinion, of course your preference may vary. The dinner was particularly excellent with many many unique choices available. I strongly suggest you to include the dinner buffet in your booking if available. The breakfast also offers more variety than another hotel in the town, too.
Very kind and helpful staff while the facility itself may look a bit outdated, but clearly super well maintained for clean services.
Overall, if you have choices and choose to stay this place, you are making an excellent choice.
