The check in was fine and the woman at the reception seemed friendly, although she never mentioned anything about the WiFi code and there was no other information about it as all I was given was a key.
The main problem was the room. It smelled heavily of chemicals, and I couldn’t identify the specific odor, although it didn’t seem to be a typical cleaning smell. I’m pretty sure it was insect repellent as I kept finding small ants in the bathroom area (only that area, but they were persistent) and I did not leave any food out.
At any rate the smell was strong enough that my allergies kicked in and I had a tough time sleeping. I really think the owner just needs to seal the area where the pipes come into the bathroom sink and that would solve the ant problem, and as a result solve the smell problem.
It’s a shame, because the room was otherwise clean, albeit older, and the bed was very comfortable. The motel is in a rural setting but the owner has flowers and put effort into keeping up the appearances. As a result of my experience, I’d probably look for a different place to stay next time, but I’ve definitely stayed in worse places.
