Our stay at Amari Colombo was by far the worst five-star hotel experience we have ever had. While the hotel looks modern and attractive at first glance, this impression collapses completely as soon as you experience the actual service and management.
What was acceptable:
The bed was comfortable, the Wi-Fi worked well, and the city view was pleasant. The rooftop bar with live music and DJ sets was enjoyable, and the breakfast buffet was extensive.
Where everything went seriously wrong:
From check-in onward, the experience was dominated by incompetence and a lack of professionalism. Our room door was defective, and despite reporting it immediately in the early afternoon, nothing happened for hours. After several complaints, someone looked at it but simply disappeared without fixing anything or communicating with us. By 21:30, after yet another call, we were finally told the door could not be repaired and that we needed to change rooms. Assigning a room with a broken door and then requiring multiple interventions to address something so basic is absolutely unacceptable in any hotel — especially one claiming five stars.
The problems continued nonstop:
The first room had an empty soap dispenser.
The second room had stained sheets and visible mold in the bathroom. Under the sofa, there was still trash left behind from previous guests — clearly the room had not been cleaned properly.
The breakfast room was uncomfortably cold. Service was wildly inconsistent: plates were cleare
