Lovely bar, good atmosphere. Room not so good, smelt damp & awful smell in the bathroom from the drains. No evening meal as the gas was off. Needs a lot of money spending on it

8/10 Very good

Was ok for price clean

6/10 Good

The staff member had check-in was very friendly, the room was extremely simple but clean. The bathroom could use some hooks and shelves as there’s nowhere around the sink or in the shower to put anything. Nowhere to store towels or hang clothes. We stayed in the room furthest away from the bar. I didn’t hear any noise while we slept. If the end is not serving any food in the evening, there is a good restaurant next-door plus a Tesco the next-door down. The rest of the area is quiet residential.

Very poor and the damp smell was not very nice. The staff did there best and were helpful. But I cannot recommend this hotel.

The shower room smelt damp and mouldy, there wasnt a glass in the room I could use to take my medication, and the wall heater was falling off the wall. The bed was reasonable comfortable and bed linen was clean. Doors started banging at 5.30 as other guests were leaving.

Twin room at The Liberal House

Hired a twin room for the night whilst staying with my daughter after a previous bad experience at a different hotel. The room was clean, the TV worked and the pressure in the shower was nice to me. Stopped for a beer in the pub (noise from which was not heard in the room) and the ladies working were polite and helpful. I felt I received good value for money, I would happily return and would be glad to recommend to others

Worse hotel I have ever use in my life. Very poor service

Avoid like the plague

Drunken power drinkers staggering around with one sitting between park cars with a duet in a black bin liner. When we got up to the room it stunk of cigarettes & was grubby so walked left the key as instructed & left. Went straight into Tamworth & got a room at a travel lodge. Avoid like the plague

6/10 Good

Parking easy Check-in frustrating. Lady repeatedly asked for ID even though I only had bank cards on me and had not been asked to bring anything else. Room clean enough. Basic but expected this at price mark. Small heater in room was off on our arrival so room was cold. Unclear how to use heater so room remained cold. Assume on a timer. WiFi password displayed did not work so used data instead Beds ok. Busy pub but on our particular stay consisted of all men- locals, construction site workers and poker group. Fine for some potential future stayers but not ideal for mum and teen girl. Not really family establishment on first impression. Food was fine though got charged full price for children meal (when advertised as £1 with adult main meal) and asked for chips but got mash. After check in issue I didn’t mention it at time as just wanted to retire to room. Overall fine for single/male groups looking for a very budget stay. Didn’t suit us on a family trip. Just uncomfortable all around.

Rubbish place to stay

Very poor , room not very clean , shower door broken, not informed beforehand that no food on offer because of a party , so very loud music all night
Phil, 1-night trip

The room was clean and warm. The car parking was good enough with no issues. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was nice.

Lovely landlady and all very welcoming

6/10 Good

Staff were friendly especially the ladies at breakfast time. The room, bedding and bathroom was clean though I found the room and building in general to have various smells which gave me the feeling of slight discomfort - only slight. Parking was great. Location worked very well for our weekend. The Tesco next door was a life saver.
Garth, 3-night trip

2/10 Poor

Room small and dated 1950, mattress springs in yer back, no tea/coffee in room, no hairdryer. Fire light flashing in eyes every second. Drawer handle sticky. Changed room after 20mins as mattress unsleepable. Checked out spending one night. No healthy breakfast all fried food. Painful back from mattress spoilt my visit. Would like compensation. It was the pits!!!!!!!
Merilyn, 3-night trip

4/10 Fair

Main problem was the terrible smell of sewage in the bathroom.
Gary, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

The room that I booked stunk of urine that could be smelt before I entered the room. When I did enter the room the smell made me gag, there was no way I was going to get any sleep. There were two small single beds in the room. When I reported the issue the staff member on shift was brilliant, she phoned the manager who offered me food and another room as compensation. The member of staff did forewarn me that in the other room there was an issue with the blind and that it was due to be replaced. It turned out that the blind was covered in mould caused by damp which caused the room to smell. I declined the offer of the new room, was refunded in full and opted to stay at in a room at a popular hotel chain.
Claire, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

leaking room in room, mouldy carpet & was like a hostel. i slept in my clothes, ready to make a fast escape and was awake all night with noisy pub go-ers in hindsight I should have slept in the car

Cheap & basic

Very helpful & friendly staff but accommodation area had a damp musty smell. Rooms were comfortable but basic & could do with an overhaul. Lovely breakfast for a very good price.

Suitably maintained lodgings with a vibrant lounge/bar.
Abayomi, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

The rooms are located right next to the pub and the smell of old alcohol filled all the halls and then damp in the rooms. Really not a nice encounter, we left and booked somewhere else instead

Friendly staff. Small compact room. Found the bed extremely comfy. Can be a little noisy as it is a working premises, but didnt stop us from sleeping.

You get what you pay for

The overall experience was good but my abiding memory will be the pervasive and sickening smell of the drains.
