This is an extremely unique, charming, historical property in a beautiful area which is just begging to be explored. The house itself warrants a longer visit to appreciate the care and attention paid to making it endlessly interesting, and TJ enhances the entire experience with his hospitality and knowledge. I highly recommend staying here for a delightful respite from the fast pace of LA while being ideally situated.

This property is very special. It is a villa set high on a hill in Pasadena, minutes from Old Town Pasadena but very accessible for other locations. With only five rooms, the hotel really is a B&B and the owner is very welcoming.

TJ was genuinely welcoming and endlessly entertaining. One of those interesting humans who seemingly effortlessly turn a stressful trip into a fun and relaxing weekend. Breakfast was our favorite time of day although happy hour was always good too. Best lemon drop on the planet!

Above and beyond

We weren’t sure what to expect from our stay. The place looked great and from all of the pictures. What we got was way more than we paid for. TJ was the best host. The place was AMAZING. The age and history of the house were so interesting. The views were to die for. If we could double the available starts to give we would.

Highly recommend!!

WOW! The Patrician is the place to be if you want to relax and take in the views. My husband and I highly recommend this wonderful location as a fun getaway. The best part was our host TJ. His hosting skills are on point. He provided the classy finishing touches to our stay at this beautiful home hidden in the hills. Tj keeps the house immaculate and has fresh flowers throughout the house. TJ also made us a delicious breakfast. We enjoyed our breakfast in the kitchen with another couple and TJ. It was a lovely morning. Can't wait to recommend this place to anyone that will listen. Thanks TJ!

In spite of it’s name suggesting a 500 room luxury hotel (the promoter’s idea for gaining priority in searches) the Patrician is a beautiful large converted house high on a ridge overlooking Pasadena and the LA basin, thus it’s really a guest house, but oh so nice! With a pretty garden on a point overlooking the city, we declared our intention to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset there. TJ, the owner and host, unexpectedly then set a table for us with a dish of nuts and some wine glasses. We had a most pleasant discussion with him (multiple times during our one-night stay) and I felt his friendly and interested involvement enhanced our experience here greatly. We had the single room up a circular stairs from the kitchen. The room (smallish with two twin beds) was tastefully furnished with its own bathroom off the landing outside the door. About 8 AM the scent of warming breakfast croissants wafting up the stairs was a delicious wake-up. This stay was on the expensive side for us but we took a chance based on the description and reviews—it was worth every penny!

A beautiful and distinctive B and B!

We were delighted by The Patrician! Built in the 1920s, the home's architecture, interiors, and landscaping provided a lovely atmospheric home base during our visit to Pasadena and surrounding areas. There are beautiful antiques and artifacts throughout the house, and I wish I could have spent more time looking at everything. We were given an upgrade to The Hideaway room, which is styled with dramatic Moroccan touches, a walk-in closet and double-sink bathroom. TJ is the quintessential host who knows his business and makes you feel right at home but gives you plenty of privacy. He is well-traveled and can provide ample tips on restaurants and things to do. He is also an excellent raconteur with plenty of stories about L.A., and we had many entertaining conversations. You are likely to meet other guests at breakfast with interesting backgrounds as well. Continental breakfast is included and we appreciated the pour-over coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice as well as the fresh berries with yogurt and granola, along with a warm bakery item each morning. The tinkling fountain on the tiled terrace provides a lovely "welcome home" at the end of your day, and the spectacular hilltop location and views of Pasadena and Los Angeles feel indulgent and invigorating. We were quite pleased with our experience and may have found a regular home away from home for future visits with our daughter, who just moved to the area.

If you are looking for a typical hotel experience, this may not be a fit for you. However (and at this point I will transition to poetry): “If you enjoy beautiful accommodations - If you have a penchant for lively conversations - If your cocktail cravings veer toward a lemon drop - If you have an appreciation for views that are non-stop. Then may I suggest the Patrician for your Pasedna stay? It is a unique and special place for a romantic getaway!” As has been mentioned in numerous reviews, T.J. is a top-notch concierge and host. His suggestions provided some real highlights for our weekend! He obviously takes great pride and joy in hosting guests on his amazing property. Truly a memorable time - Bed linens were so soft and the towels were fluffy! It’s those small details that make a stay feel special. The Patrician has so many little touches that make it stand out in a crowd of B&B’s. The pour-over coffee is a totally zen experience that has me re-thinking my current morning ritual. The decor is sumptuous and every piece seems to tell a story. This is a quiet spot - not a party house. There are stairs so take that into consideration. Also - you are asked to remove your shoes upon entering the home, so a pair of inside slippers would be recommended. Thank you, T.J. for a wonderful weekend!!

To start things off, it was a balmy summer night in Los Angeles, California. The drive up to TJs was a long winding climb through the hills of California. Crickets chirped in the forest bringing a magical feel to the tree lined street, which instantly calmed our post-travel nerves When we arrived, TJ walked down to greet us with a warm smile, ready to welcome us into his home. Pleasantly surprised, we followed him up the exquisitely tiled stairs and entered the home. It was a marvelous sight to behold, as the decorations, furnishing and unique objects caught our eye and sparkled in the low light- creating a beautiful ambiance. Unbeknownst to us, we had arrived at the perfect time, for a pizza 🍕 party and one of TJs hand spun, infamous lemon 🍋 drops 🍸 TJ welcomed us into his home like we were his own family. Although our trip to LA was for an unfortunate event, our host at The Patrician Hollywood Universal made our stay a ray of sunshine ☀️ during a difficult time. The property itself was blissfully tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown LA, creating a zen like feel only a birds eye distance from the city. The view was marvelous, and the house was regal. The beds were like sleeping on a cloud ☁️ and the complimentary breakfast was fit for the likes of Kings and Queens. Fresh squeezed orange juice made by TJ himself each morning created a zesty and invigorating start to the day. Incredibly clean. Max comfort. if you get the chance to stay here dont hesitate!
