Melanie, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Sketchy place

Unfortunately, I checked in and then checked right out. The beds were haphazardly made. The sheets were very rough and uncomfortable. The door did not have an inside security lock which was my main issue and there were people that looked like they were more like residents than people staying for the night. I told the office person my issue with the inside lock and she gave me some strange answer about people being crazy and not being able to keep the lock on the door. I don’t know what that meant but it was so sketchy and I felt so uncomfortable. The place was very dated, but The towels were clean though. She did give me a refund for the second night, but told me the policy was that I didn’t cancel within 24 hours so the first night could not be refunded. I did show up so I kept my end of the bargain. I feel I should’ve gotten a full refund.

I enjoyed staying here. It's a small, simple place. It's very quiet. We arrived late because we decided last minute to stay overnight. I used the phone outside of the door to alert the clerk that I was there to check in. The owners live onsite. I believe I woke her up. I felt bad. She could not have been nicer. It was a great experience. I would not only recommend it, I will be staying there again.

You get what you pay for. Not terrible but not amazing either.
Peter, 5-night trip

8/10 Very good

It seems inconsequential but spending $100 for a room that doesn’t even have a toilet paper roll holder is a bit much. Very basic amenities.
Robin, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Typical beach motel. Had fridge but no coffee maker or microwave. Table with 2 chairs and 1 nite stand. Woodlike floor. Ok for money. Only saw staff on check in. Stayed 2 nite. Was there for funeral, so didnt need to be in room longing

Best and Most reasonable place in South central CT

This is the 2nd year I've stayed at the Lamplighter. Still reasonably priced, still with a microwave and fridge, awesome air conditioner, beds were comfortable, shower worked great with plenty of hot water. Mostly a clean room, for some reason the bathroom windowsill had been cleaned in ages and the bathroom window didnt have a curtain. A back deck could look right in. Will certainly return and will make sure i bring a curtain, next time.

Basic but all good at the vintage Lamplighter!

bare bones beach motel. i liked it but i was there for only one night. they called me - on the room's landline! - half hour before checkout as a courtesy which i didn't pay for. That was nice as i would've overslept. downside - it was cold even with the heat blasting. glad for the 2 beds for the extra blankets.
1-night trip

6/10 Good

Toilet stopped up. Security chain attached only to moulding, which had detached from door frame. Towels small and not very absorbent, therefore not enough of them. Shower weak. Bed fairly comfortable and linens were cean.

8/10 Very good

A clean cheap place to stay

The room was adequate, clean and newly painted. But no amenities or decor. Rather stark. The carpeted floor was uneven. The plumbing sink and commode were ancient. The commode was very low. Not easy for seniors. AC/Heat was efficient but a bit noisy, as the bed was only a couple of feet away from the unit. Great for anyone looking for an economical motel in the area. Plenty of restaurants nearby.

As always, when in this area of CT. I stay at the Lamplighter. Close to the highway, easy walking distance to numerous restaurants. Always very clean, everything works and i did notice the new beds in my room, which were super comfortable. Extremely nice rooms for the price, with fridge and microwave. Shower, instant hot water and plenty of it. I love staying at the Lamplighter.
