Quiet, super relaxing family stay

Used Hacienda Juanita as a base to explore Maricao and nearby towns. Property has beautiful trails, coffee groves and even two spectacular waterfalls. Highly recommended!

6/10 Good

Food is limited variety and during buying what they have to eat, My daughter got burn where the food is displayed where they don’t have any sign suggesting the area is hot. Also bed and pull out couch are not comfortable but other then that that the place is clean and tranquil area
Yajaira I, 3-night trip

6/10 Good

The hotel delivers everything it promises, like a pool, comfortable rooms, air conditioning, super comfy beds, and beautiful natural scenery, but there’s one big downside—the restaurant. The food is really bad. I recommend hiring a better chef because it doesn’t live up to what you’d expect when visiting a place like this. The worst part is that Maricao is such a small town, there aren’t many other dinner options around.

Great for birding! Fresh mountain air and beautiful surroundings. Only drawback is that they don't have mosquito screens on their windows so residents can enjoy the fresh mountain air. Instead, you are left with so much humidity inside. Otherwise would have given 5 stars.

Ok if you can sleep without AC and don't mind noTV

The property was pretty. The room was nice. No air-conditioning in the room and no screens on the windows so I didn't sleep well as a result of being bit by mosquitoes and what appeared to be termites coming down from the ceiling behind the headboard. There also was no WiFi so no TV. The pool was also full of leaves which I thought could have happened throughout the day but they were there the following morning as well. I would NOT stay again.
Irene, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

This is a lovely property at the edge of a forested natural area. The location is terrific if you want to be in nature (which I did!). Each staff member was super friendly. The pool was clean (and warm!) and the courtyard just wonderful. The flowering trees, abundance of birds, and adjacent trails were dreamy. Our balcony was amazing. It would be good for anyone visiting to know in advance about the difficulties in eating, especially dinner. The café on the property is open 8-4 M-Th, and then you have to forage for yourself for dinner. This is hard because the roads are twisty, steep, and dark. The nearest town has very little to eat and other towns would be an impossibly hard drive away. Knowing this, I got a room with a kitchenette. But I found out, only on arrival, that the kitchenette had zero cookware, plates, glasses, or cutlery. Thankfully, the staff lent me items from the cafe, but I still couldn't really cook, although I could heat water. There's internet available near the check-in counter but not in your rooms. I could imagine this place really soaring with a few upgrades: more food (and more vegetarian food); some enhancements for birdwatchers or other nature-lovers (like bird feeders, outdoor lights that are motion-activated rather than on all the time, less gas-powered gardening during the day, etc); and more amenities (there was really just soap and towels). Thanks to the staff for being friendly and accommodating! And hello to the owls!
Kimberly, 5-night trip

4/10 Fair

Staff spoke Spanish only. Reserved 3 months ahead of time, but had to wait in my car for the last room right by the office to be cleaned. I stayed only 1 night it was such a bad night's sleep, but had to pay minimum 2. This is more glamping for sure. Room has beds, but not comfortable. Pillows thin and hard - terrible. No mini fridge. No screens to open windows. I guess the young families were having a nice time, but not a good match for an old nature lover. People were noisy, even out in the woods talking loudly. At the rooms playing TVs and music along with loud voices. It poured rain and there are no mats for wiping feet. Loved hearing the owl and coqui at night once the peiople finally went quiet.
Marianne, 2-night trip
