This motel was overall average to below average, but it has several pros and cons to consider.
Pros: Literally right on the water, lots of amenities, and there are discounts for the Mackinac Island ferries and several restaurants in the area. The motel has a community feel to it. The staff member who checked us in was wonderful and very helpful.
Cons: The place just isn't clean. There was constantly sand on the floor (not from us - it was there when we checked in), and bugs in the room. No bedbugs or anything like that - but flying bugs on the ceiling and in the bathroom. The sheets are stained red which gives the impression of bedbugs, but staff said it's rust from the washing machine (!). The pool and hot tub area are disgusting - the plaster is discolored, the hot tub jets didn't work, and the pool temperature was freezing, making it unusable. The staff member who took over from the one who checked us in demonstrated poor customer service throughout our day. We had to ask for towels and a hair dryer (which should've been in the room in the first place) and it took forever to get both. She was overall dismissive of our requests.
Overall, this is not the worst motel you could stay in. It was expensive for what we got, but outside summer it's probably a bargain. If you are a budget conscious traveler wanting area discounts, this may be the place for you. You'll need to lower your standards for cleanliness, though.
