10/10 Exceptional

We had a lovely time at Douglas House. We returned after 28 years and found the hospitality and facilities just as we enjoyed them in 1997.

6/10 Good

not the best

Parking was good off street. The actual room was not up to standards. Basement with no TV in bedroom. needs updates. I feel we were very overcharged for room. Breakfast was wonderful. I would definitely like a partial refund.

We had an amazing stay at Douglas Guest House! The property is beautifully maintained, and being springtime all the flowers were in full bloom. The staff were incredible, giving us plenty of local recommendations. Breakfast was delicious and fresh. Great location near public transport. We will absolutely stay here again for future trips to Vancouver.

Lovely, quite and clean & friendly helpful staff.

Great place, and the pictures - at least for my suite - accurately show the suite. I come to Vancouver for work a great deal, and this will definitely be my preferred place going forward. Very friendly and helpful staff too. Steps from Cambie St - your main conduit into downtown Vancouver.

Check in time was very limited between 3-5pm which is too short. Parking limited may be an issue. But nice place all together. Easy access to public transportation

8/10 Very good

We had a wonderful stay at Douglas House in the main floor Mateo Suite from Nov 16 to 18/24. The location was a 10 min walk from the Canada Line Broadway Stn. The room was comfortable and decent size plus bed was comfy. The bathroom amenities were good quality too. For us the only ‘downside’ was that the other furnishings in the room needed a refresh. The chairs were stained and looked worn out as did a small coffee table. Also a new shower head would do a world of good. We would stay again.

Arrived in Vancouver for a medical appointment, up since three in the morning. Our appointment was early so we went to find our location which is very close to the hospital. Arrived three hours earlier than check in time and without a fuss or extra charge got to lay down for an hour before venturing out. We quickly learned we were close to Granville Island, shops, train station and more. Looking for affordable accommodation this is it!!!!

Clean and comfortable

Clean and comfortable in general in a beautiful 100 year old house. That being said, a few things would have made it better. 1. No place to put hygiene items in the bathroom. A stand of some sort would have been great. Did appreciate that there were lots of hooks. 2. It was wonderful and unexpected that there was a small refrigerator in the room. A garbage can there would have been great. 3. Also would have appreciated a small table in the room. 4. The tall rotating fan made it bearable and was appreciated but it was very warm. AC would have made it better.

2/10 Poor

Do not stay here!

Terrible experience. The room was 32C / 90F when we arrived. There was a portable air conditioner in the room that we turned on and after 2 hours the room was still a sweltering 86F at 10p at night. We tried calling and texting the contact number provided multiple times as did Hotels.com, and no one would pick up. Keep in mind that the listing says “air conditioned”. There was a skylight above the bed with a paper window covering falling off, that would let in light at the crack of dawn. We sat on the bed and it completely caved in. Finally after no response to our calls (and those from hotels.com) we had to leave and seek a last minute hotel elsewhere, as the room was unusable. The next day we were notified that we would not receive a refund as we hadn’t cancelled in advance of arrival. What in the world? We couldn’t know the status until arriving! The unit was completely unusable and while we were willing to move to another room, no one would pick up or reply to our calls/txts. I will be pursuing a refund through my credit card company as the host is citing their cancellation policy.

Douglas House was worth it!

Spent the night to attend a concert. Very pleasant service with clear directions. Easy to Uber to downtown. A few good places open after 11pm in the area. Quiet, clean, kitchen space with stocked items to use. Secure access and parking. Great breakfast in the morning and would advise to tip as the staff are great with breakfast service! Would definitely recommend. Accommodated 4 of us quite well!
1 queen and 1 double bed, clean and soft beds.
Small kitchen area with small tv. Able to open windows but have locks to secure.
Yummy omelette breakfast included. Polite to tip for the great service too so I’d recommend bringing a tip :)

Quiet, lovely guesthouse at the top of Mount Pleasant. Easy walk to the Canada Line skytrain (which goes to the airport) as well as to breweries in Mt. Pleasant such as 33 Acres and Brassneck. Decent opportunities for exercise by going for a run down Cambie and across the bridge and back. Nice breakfast options as well.
