Beautifully situated in the Welsh hillsides with fantastic views and at the side of a waterfall this 230 year old coaching inn is modern in all requisites and is maintained in superb condition gaining 5/5 in hygiene standards. The hosts are welcoming and friendly and go above and beyond to make their guests feel at home.

Roya Anglian Riders Wales Road Trip

We stayed overnight as part of our motorcycle road trip. This was a very nice hotel with very friendly owners and staff, and suited our needs perfectly. They made us feel welcome from the start. They let us keep some of our bikes in the garage for security and parked thei car across the bsck of the bikes left outside .. We didn’t have an evening as we'd already eaten en route, but breakfast was very nice. All in all, we had a great overnight stay and were made to feel welcome from the start. We will definitely be staying here again on next years road trip..

The hosts could not do enough for you. Ideal for a night passing through - good traditional no fuss evening menu. Breakfast was full traditional & plentiful - a great start to the day.

Escape to the country

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, it was quiet and comfortable which was what we needed for our few days away. Service was excellent and the portions of food defeated us every time.if you need a quiet escape to the country we would recommend the George Barrow.

Highly recommend the George Barrow Hotel

What a lovely gem up in the mountain, gorgeous views, really interesting old building, used to be a 17th century coaching in, the rooms were spacious and comfortable, the bed was so lovely! The owner Karen was really lovely, I was well looked after. The food (dinner and breakfast) were great too.

A really homely friendly hotel.

A fantastic stay. The owners / staff are really nice friendly people. We got to park our motorbikes in the secure barn. We had a nice evening chatting in the bar with the owners and other residents. The food was good, and the rooms were perfect for us. The view from the hotel is lovely and i would definitely stay here again. Great stay 👍

10/10 Exceptional

My second visit to the George Borrows hotel, this time we stayed for a couple of nights and explored the area. It is an older property from an age where the road side pub and hotel were the life blood of travel, many of these interesting historic hotels have gone of good, it is nice to support this one as it competes with all the 21st century trials and tribulations faced by a small business . The GB offers a warm attentive welcome for those exploring or working in the area which is within easy reach (15mls) of Aberystwyth. Whilst there do dine in the restaurant for uncomplicated, good, filling meals and remember to try the local specials.

Old but comfortable.

I had a nice comfortable room although the duvet was too heavy for this time of year! As there was a group of rugby fans in the bar no room for me after a long drive to get a drink. Also had to fit in with the kitchen for times of both dinner and breakfast, so had to have mine esrlier than i perhaps would have. However the meal was freshly cooked and hot. Dont know why Hotels.com have taken £1 and the hotel doesn't take this off my bill. !!???

4/10 Fair

I recently stayed at this property in room 7, and I wanted to share some feedback regarding my experience. Firstly, I’d like to commend the hotel’s excellent location and the warmth of the staff, who made us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived. However, I must express my concern about the state of the accommodations, as they are in dire need of refurbishment. Unfortunately, the room was cold and damp, with visible signs of mould that appeared to be painted over. The towels felt damp to the touch, and we found an old blood stain on the valance, dirt under the taps, and peeling flooring in the bathroom. Additionally, the wallpaper in the bedroom was bubbling, and there was a crack in the door concealed by a fire alarm sign. The furniture looked poorly assembled, the bed was quite hard, and the small, high window provided little view and was largely obscured by condensation. While we understand that the building is old and appreciate some creaking floorboards, the overall lack of maintenance was disheartening. I experienced mild allergic reactions, including a chesty cough, which contributed to a restless night. I intended to discuss these issues at checkout, but unfortunately, due to the very early time we chose to vacate, the reception was unattended. While we chose not to voice our concerns during our stay, we felt that without significant updates to the rooms, we could not recommend the hotel to others.

Hold your breath to avoid the smell...

First thing that hits you on arrival is the drainy, greasy 'off' smell in the reception area and stairs. The carpet reminded me of a pub in the 80s with that slightly sticky feel. The room was 2 floors up through odd fire doors, it was a tiny attic room, you banged your head on the ceiling getting out of bed. The room was hot and oppressive so the window was open all night resulting in cars and lorries driving past waking you constantly. We had no view of and mountains. The bathroom reminded us of being on an aeroplane. The shower was tiny with a broken door. The whole place smelled of damp. Plus points: the bed was actually comfortable and the staff were lovely. We honestly could not wait to leave. I do think they try their best and reading some more positive reviews perhaps its a matter of what youre used to as an individual. It reminded me of a cheap guest house we would stay at in Blackpool when I was a kid. The photos dont do it justice- and thats not a compliment.
