Lovely stay at The White Hart Coggeshall

We’ve just had a lovely one night stay at The White Hart in Coggeshall. The inn is cosy and the room was clean and spacious. We were able to find a parking space in the small car park at the rear of the inn. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal and breakfast both of which were plentiful and delicious. If in the area again we would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful old hotel

Wonderful very old building with very helpful friendly staff. A building this old can’t be in perfect condition but they do their best. Very helpful with food when we were a little late arriving.

Great value and comfortable. It is a 15th century building so expect that experience, but staff and location were great. One of the best stays in a long trip.

6/10 Good

The White Hart is incredibly charming and in a great, central location in town, close to restaurants and coffee shops. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and were very amenable to helpimg get us fed when we had a late check-in. The food was delicious at dinner and breakfast. Our room was very charming and, like any older building, had its quirks (the floor was very sloped and the water pressure in the shower was pretty low). Overall, the hotel was great and served our purposes well attending a wedding in Coggeshall.

8/10 Very good

The hotel is full of character and had a good selection of beers. We didn’t eat there as we’d been out during the day and had an early start in the morning. Staff were helpful and friendly during check in and in the pub area. Corridor up to the bedroom was small and wonky which was part of the charm of such an old building but just something to be aware of while carrying luggage or being a little infirm. Our room was very small and a bit tired looking. The wardrobe was cheap and the back falling out. The wall lights had been changed so there were gaps in the wallpaper. The new lampshades had been burned by the lightbulbs so was a little bit concerning. The room was very dark and better lighting would certainly have helped with moving around such a small space. The bathroom was tiny - and needed some tlc and updating. The shower pressure wasn’t very good and it quickly got steamed up with nowhere to vent out to. It was ok for one night.

6/10 Good

Creaky floor, leaky shower, bad smell.

Checked in to find bin in my room hadnt been emptied from previous occupiers, shower wouldnt get warm. Moved rooms. Room clean but turned shower on to find that the hose was split and more water leaking from split in hose than coming out of the actual shower head. Rwported this to staff but ended up fixing myself with tape the following evening. Room above had the creakiest floor ever and occupiers were stomping around until 1am so not much sleep. Bar area had bad smell like blocked drains. I would not stay again.

Lovely Inn but very chilly

The Hotel was very nice apart from the lack of heating. We went in January and the heaters were not on in the bar or restaurant area. When we asked why this was we were told that the heating was on a timer. Clearly needs some adjusting then. Rooms were spotlessly clean and the bed lined was good quality as were the towels. Very few staff around and they were running around trying to serve drinks in the bar as well as waiting tables in the restaurant. Cannot fault the staff at all but a few more might be better. Dinner Saturday night was very nice although there were several items not available which was odd considering that there were only a handful of diners. Breakfast was included and there was a nice assortment of buffets items and several choices of hot food. Coffee and tea were a bit of the cold side and really the staff should be replacing these but again there was only one staff member looking after us. I would return but not in the winter unless they can do something about the lack of heating

Great hotel, amazing staff

Can’t praise this hotel enough. Super friendly check in and the staff are so helpful. Atmosphere in the bar is great, breakfast and evening meal were both superb. 12/10 rating and will be staying here again. Well done to all the team at the White Hart

6/10 Good

Staff were so lovely, cannot fault them at all. Easy self parking and the pub restaurant looked lovely. The rooms however, so tired. Stayed one night for a wedding, was fine for this but just invest some money in it. Damp stains all over walls, tiny bath/shower with cheap curtain, carpet was filthy and had holes all over it, basically threadbare... Bed was so uncomfortable. Sorry to leave this bad review because it's a gorgeous historic building but it's not being made the most of!!

Nice Pub Hotel

Nice old pub with hotel accommodation. Used for the nearby Houchins Wedding Venue. Bedroom comfortable. Shower a squeeze if you are taller than 6ft, but the trade off is the heritage of the building. Easy parking at rear.

8/10 Very good

Nice quirky place.

Overall, really happy with our stay, here. I like olde worlde places and this place is older than Paul McCartney… Lovely staff, although possibly a little short staffed, because some seem run off their feet & a little wait to check in. Meal was good, again, nice staff. The shower in the room, whilst possibly matching the age of the building, was a nightmare to use. Scolding water and the most confusing combination of levers & twisty taps I have ever encountered. So I left very clean… but some info on how it should work would be good. Lovely bed, super comfy, so a good stay, all in all.
