We stayed at the New Holgate for one night in mid November. It’s an easy and pleasant walk from York train station, which made arriving and getting around very convenient.
We had booked a deluxe double room, which Hotels.com described as having both a separate bathtub and shower, but it only had a shower so I assume we were put in a standard room.
As we were only staying for one night, it didn’t feel worth raising a complaint, but it was disappointing given the “deluxe” label.
The room itself was reasonably comfortable, but when we returned in the evening the heating had been switched on and the room was unbearably hot—more like a sauna. It made getting any proper sleep very difficult.
Breakfast was fine but quite underwhelming. There was no toaster or butter available, the coffee machine was out of order, and the dining room felt extremely cramped. Nothing about it felt particularly special or premium.
Overall, it was an ok stay, but certainly not the deluxe experience we had expected based on the booking description. The location is great, but several aspects left us feeling underwhelmed.
