If you like your history Colchester has plenty to offer - the Romans first major British city, the Castle, events in the English Civil War, etc. The Main Street has an array of shops and many interesting (and historical) places to eat and drink

A lovely city with lots of character, castle and gardens among the best on a sunny afternoon. Great shopping for the whole family. Massive selection of restaurants and clubs all in walking distance. Generally felt friendly and safe.

Oldest Roman city in U.K. with great visitor attractions. The castle guided tour taking you to the vaults and the roof are worth the extra spend and time.

We were there to try some of the real ale pubs &there are quite a few. We also had a great meal at The Britannia & Gurkha Restaurant & Bar. Would definitely recommend that. There is a bus stop next to the hotel &the train station is 15 mins walk
"Excellent stay again. Staff very friendly. Lovely food. The hotel was really busy as they had two weddings during our stay. The cleanliness however was not up to its previous standard. "
"I had a really nice stay at The WoolPack Inn. I liked the way the room was decorated and it was lovely and clean. Daily housekeeping too which was great. Staff were really friendly and happy to help. Only small downside was that the room was pretty small - no wardrobe (just some hangers on some pegs)/vanity area. However, this didn't affect my stay. The tea tray/mini fridge was well stocked with everything you'd need!
There is very little sound proofing so it can be noisy - however when I stayed the nights were pretty quiet."
"Located behind "Kind of Spice" so type that in when looking for this place. No lift in the annex building, which is where our room was (2nd flr). Otherwise, kind staff and clean rooms. Complimentary bottles of water at the FD, just ask. Breakfast selection was fantastic; you can pay the night before and save 4bucks compared to the day of. No dinner service, but the bar is open in the evening from 5:30- 10:15pm. "King of Spice" (curry) is right around the corner, so we had dinner there instead. NO a/c. -JB from Cali"
"I expected to be in the annex, but the room was very good and had a balcony.
Food was excellent, generous portions.
To be honest, I thought the wine was a bit pricey.
Very nice garden, and plenty of parking.
The hotel is a training hotel, so the staff are knowledgeable. "
