"Beautiful views of the mountains and walkable distance to Matsushiro Castle Ruins. The location is a bit far from Nagano City so I takes a bus to get back to city for more dining and nightlife options. Breakfast buffet was great with a huge variety of japanese and western choices."

"Hotel Hanabun was a great ryokan experience! It is nestled in the mountains offering a peaceful getaway from touristy/crowded areas. It had the best onsen water, even the locals went there to bathe!
The hosts and staff are all friendly and accommodating to your needs. Google translate was necessary to communicate, but everyone is very patient. The food was incredibly delicious, and they use locally sourced, fresh ingredients. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy ryokan. "

"Had a great stay at Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Yamanoha. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style with many options - both traditional and western. Room was very spacious and was a lot bigger than we were expecting! Highlight was the outdoor Onsen. Would highly recommend - staff spoke good English and very friendly. "

"Old Showa style minimalistic ryokan, but the room for 5 was spacepus (double room) and the tatami beds and beddings arw comfortable. Self-service to put the futon (which was no problem for us). Power plugs and Wifi were abundant. We were fine with steps but for eldery or disabled it may be a challenge. The hot spring bath was nice. The temperature may be on a hot side but i think it is pretty standard. The tub was indeed made of wood (I assume hinoki). The place seemed to have a fair number of...

"My new hubby and I stayed here for a few nights for skiing. Overall had a good time the rooms were spacious, clean and tidy and right outside of the ski slope. However no where on the booking told us that there were no currency exchange options or ATM in the hotel. Luckily we had the exact amount of money otherwise we would’ve had to bus it back to a main area (20-40mins) to get cash to hire our ski gear. There’s minimal food options around the area however the hotel had a buffet Brekky/dinner...

"The hosts at the hotel were extremely hospitable. They helped us get to our hike at Mount Tsubakuro and created a wonderful environment for rest and relaxation. The food was great, too!"

"We had a good stay at Furuhata, but there were a few inconveniences. The onsen was fantastic—nice and hot, perfect after a long day of skiing. Towels and kimonos were replaced daily, which was a great touch, and beds were made every two days. The price was reasonable, and the shuttle to the ski resort was convenient.
However, there was no shuttle into town, bus station or train station and taxi options were nonexistent, which made getting around a bit tricky. There were only a few restaurants...
