Sihanoukville is best known for Serendipity Beach - a large sprawl of sand known for partying backpackers. It's loud, obnoxious, and full of children with sharp sales skills (so depressing). Skip it and head to one of the outlier beaches, like Victory, which is much calmer with great food stalls lining it. Sihanoukville's Sihanoukville City Centre neighborhood is known for its beaches and bars, and entices visitors with attractions including Sihanoukville Port and Xtreme Buggy.

If you want to get away from the seediness of Serendipity beach in Sihanoukville, Otres beach is the way to go. We had a big group there and for most of the trip had the beach to ourselves. Note: don't walk alone at night between Otres 1 and 2, I learned this the hard way and got mugged. #golden hour
